On the Wikitravel article on Negril, someone wrote:

To see more of the area in and around Negril, with a local flare, requires a tour guide. Tour Guides can be hired relatively cheaply, and will add a lot of life to your exploration of Negril, and Jamaica at large. To find one, it is easiest to ask for a referral from a tourist spot, like Rick’s Cafe. One local favorite is Sexy Rexy, a Rastafarian tourguide, but others can be found as well.

Our company went on a trip to Jamaica (it was my first time) last January and although I loved the luxury hotel we stayed at, my real memories were hanging out in Negril with Sexy Rexy. He literally thought of everything; we had booked him from New York and he was waiting for us at the airport, even though we had told him that the hotel was sending a shuttle for us. Thank God he did, the drive from Montego Bay to Negril was about an hour and a half but Rexy made it so much fun, he seemed to have a hilarious personal story attached to everything on the island. Before we reached the hotel, he pulled over to make sure our first meal on the island was authentic: traditional Jamaican patty and a bottle of Red Stripe.

The rest of the trip was incredible: Rexy took us to a local reggae concert, a dance club where we watched a true local dance off, and, of course, the world famous Rick’s where we watched the bird man dive and the beautiful sun set. We also spent plenty of time at his bar, which is just across from one of the prettiest cliffs of the island. There we met his family and friends. His daughter was an incredible dancer and she taught us Jamaican dance moves. Rexy kept wanting to cook for us.

As his name might suggest, Sexy Rexy is truly a character. Ask him about Big Rasta or the time he was a soldier in Cuba or the time he drank 40 beers in a row for his 40th birthday. He is a master storyteller and we all decided that we had more memories of Rexy than anything else in Jamaica!

My only regret was that we never saw Bob Marley’s hometown. Rexy had suggested it but when we finally got around to agreeing it was almost dawn and our plane was leaving the next day. Rexy just grinned and said “Next time” and, in fact, we are going back this year.

Here’s a nice review from

We flew to Jamaica for spring break but it wasn’t the average college spring break. We didn’t stay in a hotel, we stayed with a family we got hooked up with through a friend who spent a large amount of time in Negril. We showed up in Montego Bay not knowing anything, except there was a guy in Negril with a place for us. We found a cabby to drive us to Negril, still we had no idea where we were going, our cab driver went to Sexy Rexy’s. Rexy hopped in our cab with a bowl of freshly cooked jerk pork . We told the name of who we were looking for, he knew him! He guided our driver to the house we were staying, they didn’t know we when we were coming just that we were. We where staying about a half mile from Rexy’s. We spent a week in Negril getting hustled by the locals, we jumped off the cliff at Rick’s, snorkeled and swam in underwater caves, saw Ziggy Marley play a half hour concert to heavily intoxicated college kids, but alot of memories of the time involve hanging out at night at Sexy Rexy’s. The food was great, his wife and daughter where awesome. He actually drove us back to Montego Bay the day we left, through the mountain road, where to smell of sugar cane permeates the air, and the school children screamed “Whitey!” at the sight of us.
Sexy Rexy is a outgoing, fun loving man, I cannot to this day say a bad thing about the man. I glad to see him on the net, and I encourage everyone to meet him and get him to show you around if you can. He is charismatic and wise. I can’t say enough good things
